Nobody likes a bad salon, see the top 5 in Toronto voted by BlogTO.
- The Grateful Head – Grateful Head (“let us blow you away”) has put down roots where others have failed, along the north edge of Trinity Bellwoods on Dundas St W. Drop in for the name, stay for the cuts. A “rock’n'roll hair salon and art gallery”. Stylists slash musicians practice in off-hours in the basement jam space.
- John Steinberg and Associates – The mischievously twinkly-eyed John Steinberg (and, of course, his associates) has a prime corner spot on King St W. John has celebrity status from his work on Cityline, and also from being a prominent part of his neighbourhood. He’s an urban cyclist, and once you’ve noticed him, you start seeing him everywhere.
- W Lifestyle – Aradia’s pole-dancing (for exercise) is upstairs, Chatelet Kids is one over, and the Salvation Army is to the right. W (or “W Lifestyle” – the “Lifestyle” is just silent on the sign) occupies a helluva nook. But W has the requisite stylish stylists, staying power and a loyal following.
- Glam – Glam, on Harbord near Ossington, is proof perfect that cutting hair is just the start at many Toronto salons. Glam will also do your makeup, your tattoos, and arrange for your photography studio rental. But yes, they do style hair as well as everything else — starting at $50 for a women’s cut.
- Flaunt Boutique – Flaunt Boutique has the first website I’ve seen with a dynamic relighting dimmer switch — a nod to the intentional lighting in the salon itself. Flaunt is a self-described “one-stop style bazaar”, an “after hours hair boutique, style garage and hangout”. Women’s cuts range from $37-$100.
